Simulation Hypothesis | Are we living in a Video Game

The idea of living in an "unreal world" is a pretty scary yet popular one even Elon Musk agrees that we may be living in a simulation. 

For understanding the simulation hypothesis first, we have to understand what is a simulation and a simulator and its applications. 

What is Simulation?

In easy words, it is an attempt to duplicate the features, appearance, and characteristics of a real system.

Simulation is used in various contexts such as testing, training, education, and video games.

Simulator -

It is a device that may use any combination of sound, light, motion, and smell to make you feel that you are experiencing an actual simulation

Application of Simulation

1. Military Applications
2. Transportation modes and traffic
3. Health care
4. Business process simulation
5. Learning environment

The best example of simulation is our Video games like GTA and PUBG where it feels like a virtual world.

Are we living in a simulation?

Founder of Massachusetts Institute of Technology's PlayLabs program and author of "The Simulation Hypothesis", Rizwan Virk is among the group of people who the simulation hypothesis seriously. Many famous scientists are on the list who believe in the simulation hypothesis.
As a game developer, I can really say this idea has nothing more complicated than a virtual game, it can be possible. Many famous movies use simulation hypothesis concept, Matrix(1999) and Ready Player One(2018) are must-watch films that explain this hypothesis deeply and will clear all your concepts. 

   

Question arises

Many questions arise if we take the simulation hypothesis as real :

1. If we are living in a Simulation Hypothesis then it means everything we are doing, acting is pre-programmed and operated by somebody.
2. If we are being operated then there should be other non-living or living organisms, species superior from us(human beings) present who are controlling all are moves.
