Delhi Unauthorized Colonies | How to apply for Ownership rights online

Residents of unauthorized colonies in the national capital will be able to apply for ownership rights starting from December 16, this process will be done online. Maps of 1,731 colonies are already ready through satellite imagery and already been uploaded on Google. Parliament last weak passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Resident in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill 2019. Which aims to provide legal status to unauthorized colonies in Delhi.

The Union Cabinet had approved a bill on Wednesday which provides a legal framework to grant ownership rights to the people living in unauthorized colonies in the city, that will benefit more than 50 lakh people.

The Delhi Development Authority(DDA), the nodal agency for implementation of the housing process, has already established over 50 helpdesks at various locations including karkardooma, Vasant Kunj, Mundka, Azadpur and Dwarka to address the queries of the resident and facilitate all necessary assistance to applicants.

Here's how you can apply online for ownership rights:

• DDA will launch a new website on December 16 where residents can apply for ownership rights.
•  The applicants will have to register and upload documents [general power of attorney, payment receipt, possession letter] on the DDA website.
• DDA officials will visit the spot for verification. They will help the applicant remove deficiencies, in case if there is any.
• Over 50 helpdesk will be put at various locations to facilitate and render all necessary assistance to applicants.
• Ownership certification will be provided within 180 days from the date of application.
• To obtain ownership certification, residents will have to pay charges to notify by central government, along with stamp duty and registration charges on the last transaction.     
• The registration of property will be done only in the name of the women head of the family, or co-jointly with the male member of the house.

This Decision is politically significant as it will benefit millions of poor migrants who hold key to the assembly election due early next year and had backed the Aam Aadmi Party in large numbers in the 2015 Delhi polls.
